The Michigan Teaching for
Learning Institute is designed to accelerate the
achievement of all students through exploring and sharing
educators’ beliefs and practices. Through examination of
comprehensive sets of data and the current research on
instructional practice, participants will analyze school
and student performance to learn and apply strategies that
will directly impact the teaching and learning process. The
Institute will explicitly address the multiple risk factors
effecting students in schools. School teams will define and
plan the implementation of a system of instructional
support that will align with their school improvement plan
to accelerate the progress of every student.

Strand I
The
Common Core State Standards (CCSS) implementation process
provides an opportunity to revisit unit design and
instructional supports for increasing and accelerating
student achievement. Using Michigan Department of Education
(MDE) CCSS/HSCE/GLCE alignment documents, MDE Unit
Development Framework, and missionliteracy.com resources,
participants will carefully analyze the CCSS as they design
units of instruction that will prepare students to meet MMC
requirements while developing literacy skills for
postsecondary success.
